BOUNCE HEALTH HACKATHON

Memorial University of Newfoundland
May 2022

  • Used this opportunity to further research and pitch Human Chargers.

  • Narrowed market research to usage of ventilators in areas without access to electricity.

  • Created designs of product, circuit drawings, tested electromyography outputs, quantified electricity generated per day, and utilized multiple research studies.

HACKFROSTNL 2.0

Memorial University of Newfoundland
February 2022

  • Created a start-up (Human Chargers) to the prompt “Using technology, develop a solution that helps residents of a developing region solve one of their societal problems”

  • Human Chargers value proposition:

    • Through the muscle power of the human body, Human Chargers offers innovative and affordable clothing that harnesses renewable energy with each move that you make.

  • Lead a team of engineers through circuit design & prototyping, as well as researching market validation.

  • Researched user and customer markets, technologies to be incorporated, circuit design, block diagram, & product design.

  • Presented the company pitch to numerous industry judges, & received an honorary mention.

SHAD

McMaster University
July 2019

  • Attended lectures and workshops on a variety of STEAM fields.

  • Worked in a team on a design entrepreneurship project that we pitched to judges.

    • Created a thorough business plan explaining my teams’ company - Blossom.

    • Researched the materials, production, distribution and advertising finances.

    • Conducted surveys, market analysis and research to determine the best choices in terms of advertising, problem identification & magnitude of potential sales.

    • Ensured the product was up to current safety standards & investigated potential risks.

    • Explored multiple avenues for new designs before choosing the final product & began looking into potential future plans.

PRESENTATIONS

At the end of SHAD, each Design Entrepreneurship group presented their business idea to professional judges. My group, Blossom, is pictured to the right.

WE ARE SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS RBC BUSINESS CASE CHALLENGE

Ryerson University
August 2018

  • Collaborated with RBC mentors to learn about and research marketing, project management, budgeting & timelines.

  • Investigated potential prototypes, including materials, appearance, and the specifics of the circuitry.

  • Conducted surveys, peer review & brainstormed marketing ideas.

  • Organized project timelines & project management.

  • Budgeted material, production distribution, and advertising costs.

  • Pitched my idea to RBC judges and was awarded $1000 seed funding to aid my research;

    • Harnessing and storing electricity from muscle activation (using electromyography), which could potentially create a new renewable energy source.

THE IDEA - HUMAN CHARGERS

Through the muscle power of the human body, Human Chargers would offer innovative and affordable clothing that harnesses your renewable energy with each move that you make. Human Chargers would store electricity from muscle activation (electromyography), potentially creating a renewable energy source.
A large problem that was found in the prototyping phase was that the amount of energy needed to amplify the signal was more than the amount of energy created. Therefore, the idea was made redundant, however the knowledge and experience I got from this program was invaluable.
